ASTM A 240
Standard specification for heat resisting chromium and chromium - Nickel Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet and strip for pressure vessels.This specification covers chromium, chromium-nickel and chromium manganese-nickel stainless and heat resisting steel plate, sheet and strip for pressure vessels.

ASTM A480 M
Standard specification for general requirements for flat rolled stainless and Heat-Resisting Steel, Plate, Sheet & Strip. This specification covers a group of general requirement which unless otherwise specified in the purchase order or in an individual specification, shall apply to rolled steel plate, sheet and strip, under each of the following specification issued by ASTM : Spec A167, A176, A177, A420 and A 412

Definitions
PLATE : Material 5mm and over in thickness and 250mm and over in width. SHEET : Material 5mm in thickness and 600mm and over width. STRIPS : Cold-rolled material under 5mm in thickness and 600mm in width.

ASTM A167
Standard specification for stainless and heat resisting chromium-Nickel Steel, Plate, Sheet and Strip. This specification covers stainless and heat - Resisting Chromium Nickel Steel Plate, Sheet and strip.
Material furnished under this specification shall conform to the applicable requirements of the current edition of ASTM Spec A480.

ASTM 176
Standard specification for stainless and heat resisting chromium - Nickel Steel, Plate, Sheet and Strip. This specification covers stainless and heat resisting chromium - Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip available in aided variety of surface finished. Materials furnished under this specification shall conform to the applicable requirements of the current edition of ASTM spec A 480.

ASTM A 666-91
Standard Specification for Austenitic Stainless Steel, Sheet, Strip, Plate and Flat Bar. This specification covers austenitic stainless steel in the annealed and normally required cold worked conditions for various structural, architectural, pressure vessels, magnetic, cryogenic and heat resisting applications. ( This revision of specification A 666 replaces prior specification A 412 and A 177). In addition to the requirements of this specifications, all requirements of the current edition of Spec A 480 shall apply.

BS 1449 : Part - 2
Specification for Stainless and Heat resisting Steel, Plate, Sheet and Strip Includes flat rolled stainless and heat resisting steel products in coil and cut length form, including plate 3 mm - 100 mm thick , wide strip sheet from 0.3 mm to less than 3 mm thick and narrow strip from 0.5 to less than 3 mm.

DIN 17440.17441 : Stainless steels quality specifications
This standard comprises the common stainless steels, which have a wide field of applications as hot or cold formed products. In applies to hot (17440) or cold (17441) formed plants, bars, wires sea mess and welded tubes and to forgings.

ASTM A 276
Standard specification for stainless and Heat Resisting Steel Bars and Shapes This specification covers hot finished or cold-finished bars except bars for re-forging, and hot rolled or extruded shapes, such as angles, tees and channels in the more commonly used type of stainless steel, excluding the free - matching types for general corrosion resistance and high - temperatures service.

Manufactured conditions are available as follows
  • A - Annealed.
  • H-Hardened and tempered at a relatively low temperature
  • T-Hardened and tempered at a relatively high temperature
  • S- Strain hardened - relatively light cold work.
  • B- Relatively severe cold work.

ASTM A 314
"Standard specification for stainless and Heat - Resisting steel and Bars for forgings." This specification covers stainless and heat - resisting steel billets and bars intended only for forgings.

ASTM A 582
"Standard specification for Free-Machining Stainless and Heat resisting Steel Bars, Hot rolled or Cold Finished." Typical grades are types 303, 303Se, 416 etc. This specification covers hot-finished or cold-finished bars, expect bars for gorging, It included rounds, squares and hexagons in the more commonly used types of stainless and heat resisting free-machining steels designed specially for optimum mach inability and for general corrosion and high temperature service.

ASTM A 479
"Standard Specification for stainless and Heat Resisting Steels Bars and Shapes for use in Boilers and other pressure vessels." This specification covers hot and cold finished bards of stainless and heat resisting steel, including rounds, squares and hexagons and hot rolled or extruded shapes such a angles, tees and channels for use in boiler and pressure vessel construction. It is also related to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code SA- 279 Section II.

ASTM A 484
"Standard Specification for general requirements for stainless and heat resisting bards, billets and forgings." This specification covers general requirements which shall apply to stainless and heat-resisting wrought steel bars, shapes forgings and billets or other semi-finished material (except wire) for forging. Pertinent details contained in this specification are tolerances for size, width, thickness, length and straightness of bars materials.

Conditions and Surface Finishes
Stainless and Heat resisting bars are produced in various conditions and surface finished. It is important that the condition be associated with the appropriate finish because each finish is not applicable to every condition.
